Orroroo Community Home

Aged Care Find welcomes Orroroo Community Home in Orroroo, SA 5431 residents are encouraged to personalise their rooms by bringing items from their previous home.

Orroroo Community Home initially commenced in the original stone building in Fourth Street in 1965 providing very low care accomodation to 21 elderly community members progressing to ageing in place and more recently to a 26 bed high care Residential Aged Care Facility that it is today. Staff skill mix has been revised to meet the higher care needs of the residents. In addition to meet the standards of aged care provision the physical location also changed to the new 16 bed facility in Fifth Street in 2001 and eventually to 5 beds at the hospital in 2010 and closure of the original building. In 2012 Orroroo successfully gained approval for 5 more Commonwealth licensed beds at the hospital. Today we have 26 Commonwealth Aged Care beds providing high care with a choice of location either at the hospital or the Community Home. The local community is very proud of Orroroo Community Home and strongly support the facility by donations of time money and resources to constantly improve the quality of life for the residents. Our staff volunteers residents and significant others participate in community events including Christmas Pageant ANZAC services regular trips to nearby Blackrock for lunch each month and annual trips to see the Christmas light display in the town. In addition to the regular community events the individual residents needs are accomodated to ensure they can continue to attend events which are important to them and to continue hobbies or interests of their choice. We welcome and value our volunteers who really enhance the lifestyle of the residents and although we have a small community our volunteer numbers are quite high. The Health service maintains close relationships with the community and early intervention to ageing often enables individuals to stay in their own home safely until they require residential aged care. We are fortunate to have very caring local staff who frequently know the resident and in some cases have provided the home care prior to admission through our Community Health Service. Consumer feedback is valued and actioned and we have a robust Continuous Improvement program to ensure we are providing the best possible care. In addition Country Health SA Local Health Network is the largest provider in the State for aged care beds.
