Glenara Lakes Lifestyle Village consists of a spacious Residential Aged Care Facility and Independent Living Villas.The ninety one three bedroom villa's are built in a picturesque environment on land which includes three man-made lakes. The planting of trees around the villas and the maintenance of the gardens surrounding each villa results in a visually pleasing and well-presented village. The provision of a bowling green, tennis court and the croquet lawn are indicators that the village takes a positive attitude towards ageing. The Gordon Dell Auditorium close to the centre of the village has an historical significance to the northern region of Tasmania and provides a flexible venue for use by the residents and the community in general. It is the site for the monthly meeting of the village residents and their 'happy hours'. The grounds are level with peaceful rural vistas allowing pedestrians to amble in a country environment whist only being fifteen minutes from the city. Good public transport is nearby and a pharmacy and supermarket are directly over the road from the village within walking distance. There is a compound provided on site which allows for the storage of extra vehicles including caravans and boats.The Residential Aged Care Facility is called the Glenara Lakes Apartments and consists of 88 single rooms with ensuite. The facility can accommodate both low and high care residents and those presenting with challenging behaviours. We have two respite rooms for use by the community as short term care or as a prelude to permanent accommodation. Southern Cross Care is committed to the provision of a quality service and admits both concessional as well as non-concessional residents.In keeping with our philosophy of ageing in place, the variety of accommodation options allows residents to remain on one site despite changes in their health status. With the construction of our 16 bed secure unit, the Peter Comas Wing, We are able to care for residents with challenging behaviours, particularly those who wander.Modern state of the art amenities are provided including spacious bedrooms with ensuite, swimming pool, library, multidenominational chapel and recreational areas as well as private areas for quiet gatherings. Residents are encouraged to bring personal possessions to their own space as the individuality of each person is valued. The dining room has a pleasant ambience and all dietary needs are catered for including specific preferences of the residents due to cultural or religious practices.The partnership which has developed between the Villa residents and the Aged Care Facility has resulted in a community feel within the established village. Volunteers from the village assist the Lifestyle and Leisure Officers to provide several services within the apartments including the cafe which is open every Monday and Thursday. This popular amenity provides a social outlet for residents, visitors and staff. An extensive programme of activities ensures that current interests of residents are maintained and new interests fostered. Naturally, physiotherapy and podiatry services are available and enjoying the luxury of the hairdressing salon is as simple as making an appointment.Parking for visitors is easy and unlimited visiting hours ensure that friends and relatives relate easily with the family ethos of Glenara Lakes. The peaceful chapel provides an opportunity for reflection as well as communal celebrations for many faiths.We aim to provide contemporary practices in relation to the care provided to the residents through the provision of skilled staff.
