Aged Care Find welcomes Anglican Care McIntosh Hostel in Booragul, NSW 2284 residents are encouraged to personalise their rooms by bringing items from their previous home.

Located adjacent to the beautiful Lake Macquarie in Booragul, McIntosh Hostel is a dementia specific Hostel catering for 63 residents, including the provision of respite care. Enjoying a long history in the Lake Macquarie area, the facility is well known in the local community for the quality of care it provides and the lovely outdoor garden areas which enable residents to stroll in pleasant surroundings. In 2012, the facility introduced the "Booragul Blokes Shed", a dedicated Men's Shed area for male residents. The objective of the Shed is to increase opportunities for conversation, camaraderie and well being for our male residents, including those with dementia.

McIntosh Hostel is fully certified and accredited with the Department of Health & Ageing and the Aged Care Standards & Accreditation Agency. In addition, the facility was awarded two Better Practice Awards in 2011 for the implementation of the Memory Magic program and the Cameos for Empathy in Dementia Care project.

The facility employs approximately 50 staff including the facility manager, registered nurses, enrolled nurses, care assistants, lifestyle & wellbeing and hotel services staff. Additionally, Anglican Care employs a Physiotherapist and Lifestyle & Wellbeing Co-ordinator who work across all of our residential aged care facilities. Unique to each of Anglican Care's residential aged care facilities is the role of the Resident Liaison Officer. The objective of this role is to ensure that the individual and social wellbeing needs of our residents are met according to Anglican Care's mission, vision and values. The Resident Liaison Officers also act as a liaison for residents and relatives with due regard to the Charter of Residents Rights and Responsibilities.

The quality of care provided at McIntosh Hostel is enhanced by the provision of a stimulating lifestyle and wellbeing program. Anglican Care also has an active community of volunteers, with many volunteers providing additional services and new friendships to the residents of McIntosh Hostel.

Located within the Cockle Bay Anglican Community, the facility is 15 minutes from both Toronto Private and John Hunter Hospital and enjoys close ties with the local GP's, schools and other community groups. Also located on the Booragul site are Anglican Care's main Administration Office, C A Brown Nursing Home & Hostel, our Day Therapy Centre and 40 retirement living units.
