Koraleigh Nursing Home has 30 high care places providing permanent and respite care. There 18 single rooms and sic two bed shared rooms. The Home is divided into three cluster units with each cluster having its own dining lounge small sitting areas and secure outdoor living areas. The Home has 24 hour key pad security. The Helen MacPherson Smith Wing is an 8 place facility caring for people with special needs including those living with dementia. The Home operates on the premice that residents do not come to live in Koraleigh by choice rather out of necessity for 24 hour care. In order to assist residents and families in the transition from home to residential aged care several meetings including visiting the prospective resident at home to establish a rapport and collaboratively plan for the residents care and admission to the home. Care and services provided are based on the principles of person centred care and provision of a supportive social and physical living and working environment. Koraleigh interacts closely with the local community and supports residents participation in community activities. The home has a band of dedicated volunteers from the close knit Tongala area and from adjacent centres. Community groups visit the home regularly including the Tongala RSL three monthly for lunch with residents who are veterans or war widows; Lions Club dinners; local sing Australia Choirs; church groups and children from the local primary schools for interactive activities with residents. Koraleigh is part of the Tongala and District Memorial Aged Care Service Inc. a community owned not-for-profit entity governed by an elected Committee of Management.It is a living War Memorial to those who served in World war 1 and subsequent wars. The Organisation has operated since 1924 initially as a Bush Nursing Hospital. In 1990 it ceased providing hospital services and established new residential aged care services on a new greenfield site. The Organisation also operates the co-located R.M.McHale Hostel and Memorial Drive Retirement Village and off-site Deakin Village. It also supports GP services to the community through provision of an accredited medical practice facility at a nominal rental. Tongala is known as the friendly town and is located in the Shire of Campapse. It is in the Goulburn Valley 220 Kms from Melbourne It is 27km or 25minutes east of Echuca and 15 km or 15 minutes from Kyabram. The provincial city of Shepparton is 45 Km or 40 minutes away and Bendigo is 75 Km or 1.5 hours traveling time. There is a twice daily V Line bus service to and from Melbourne to Echuca which passes through Tongala. Koraleigh is located in a residential street opposite the Tongala Primary School. It is 1.5 Km from the shopping precinct which has a post office pharmacy Bendigo Bank newsagency bakery supermarket family friendly hotel and several cafe's and food outlets. Tongala township has a population of 1200. It is predominantly a dairying area with a Milk processing factory and several related industries. Medical services are provided by medical practitioners from Kyabram and Echuca. Public hospitals are located in Kyabram and Echuca and larger regional hospitals in Sheppartin and Echuca. Specialist medical services are accessed from Shepparton Bendigo and Melbourne with plans to access these services on site through tele medicine facilities.
