Set in the tranquil surrounds of leafy Bray Park in Brisbane’s north-west Anam Cara meaning Soul Place” is an innovative and award-winning aged care community. As an industry leader in aged care all Wesley Mission Brisbane’s aged care homes follow the Eden Alternative™ Philosophy of care. This philosophy places the resident at the core of our work while empowering and valuing staff carers and families. In 2011 Anam Cara became the first aged care home in Queensland to be awarded full Eden in Oz & NZ™ registration and only the second nationwide. In 2013 Anam Cara was named a finalist in the 2013 HESTA Aged Care Awards for the implementation of the Eden Alternative™ philosophy. Residents living at Anam Cara have access to Wesley Mission Brisbane's own specialised residential aged care allied health professionals. This means that residents have convenient and timely access to services such as podiatry physiotherapy dietetics occupational therapy and speech pathology. This provides a streamlined approach for care with allied health staff easily and confidentially able to communicate with nursing staff to tailor support to each residents' individual needs. With chickens roaming the expansive gardens and residents tending to their own patches of garden this philosophy and its affects are evident in the Anam Cara culture. Built in 2002 Anam Cara is home to 105 residents who live across six custom-designed lodges which are interconnected with outdoor walkways allowing ample natural light to fill the lodges. All lodges are ground floor some with their own private outdoor balcony and easy access to the expansive outdoor gardens where residents can entertain family and friends in the BBQ area and children’s playground. Anam Cara offers residents extra services which can include: alternative menu choices and wine with meals daily newspaper deliveries Foxtel aromatherapy and reflexology. Extra services only refer to services and not the level of care provided. All residents are afforded the same level of high quality care. All rooms are equipped with air conditioning cabling for TV and phone ensuite bathrooms built in wardrobes and large windows with views of the leafy surrounds. Full laundry services are also available along with the ability to cater for specialised diets.Residents are welcome to bring their own pets to join them at Anam Cara with dogs cats birds and chickens enjoying their retirement with residents and bringing them much joy.Residents can enjoy all the on-site services including: a cafe hair salon chapel community hall outdoor entertaining area and the retreat where residents can take their family and friends for a private visit. Anam Cara is conveniently located close to many community amenities in Bray Park with a bus service hotel and supermarket nearby.
