Corpus Christi provides medium to long term accommodation and community for up to 90 of Melbourne’s homeless single men aged. The centre relies heavily on assistance from the wider community including donations volunteering and corporate assistance. How can you help us enhance the lives of many? Feel free to call and discuss. CCC was established in 1974 by Mother Teresa of Calcutta’s Missionaries Sisters of Charity. A few years later the operation of the Community was handed over to the Society of Jesus and Sisters of Mercy working with a team of lay helpers. CCC is accredited as an aged care facility. Simply providing housing for homeless men does not reach the core of their problems. The establishment of Corpus Christi Community aims to redress these problems. CCC supports all residents to be as independent as they are able while providing care and assistance as and when it is needed. Such assistance may consist of help with personal care and daily living activities medical / nursing procedures medication meals recreation activities counselling personal affairs and other help as appropriate. Today’s CCC features a range of facilities including a library gym kitchen area accommodation wings recreation centre with internet access a dedicated theatrette and a chapel. The men enjoy a wide range of activities including gardening games bingo dancing arts and crafts in-house movies plus regular excursions to a range of interesting locations including museums zoos and various indoor/outdoor facilities. CCC is a mix of both secular and religious. Men from a range of religious backgrounds are welcomed as are those without any religious beliefs. Catholic events including Easter and Christmas are celebrated as is the option of daily Mass. These activities are important as they help bring the men together while encouraging people from the wider local community to visit and participate.
