Common areas Bill Crawford Lodge is a 30 bed dementia specific facility located centrally in Dana St. Ballarat. The facility is divided into two houses of 15 beds each. There are eight single rooms that have their own en-suite eight single rooms with shared bathroom (but own toilet) and seven double rooms that have shared en-suites and toilet. Residents are encouraged to personalise their space with soft furnishings photographs and mementos. All rooms have access to telephone lines and television antenna. All residents' beds are electric and height adjustable. Sensor mats are provided as a safety measure for any residents who are assessed as at risk. Each bedside area bathroom and lounge area has access to the nurse call bell should staff assistance be required. External doors are fitted with electronic key pads. The Bill Crawford building is spacious and colourful. It has an open plan design with light filled atriums in each wing. The layout allows for easy staff observation while enabling residents the ability to wander safely. There are common area lounges with flat screen TV and access to DVD players for resident use. The secure external area is also designed to permit residents to wander freely and safely. The garden features a car and 'bus stop'. The therapy program is extensive and provides Montessori based activities. Each resident can participate in activities designed to meet their individual interests. A specialised Snoezelen room (sensory stimulus room) is available for use by all residents.
