The Lyndoch Hostel was officially opened on Saturday 15th November 1952 offering accommodation for 12 residents; solely for those who could look after their own daily needs. The need for expansion of services was recognised early and as a result the Lyndoch Hostel now offers residential low care accommodation to 113 residents in 3 distinct areas. These include: · KT Swinton Hostel - incorporating an award winning accommodation design · The Riverside Hostel - a warm strengthening community feel and · The Tomlinson Centre - promoting a positive focus on dementia We assist our residents to age in place; meaning we strive to accommodate changes in care needs from the one facility. Our staff are committed to supporting people to maintain their existing relationships and social networks. We understand that making the transition to residential care can be challenging for both the resident and their extended family. Every effort is made by our trained staff to ensure that this process is as smooth and simple as possible. We fully recognise and actively support the involvement of the extended family in the determination of our resident's choice and care needs from the very first time we meet. The 'Lyndoch Way' is how our care delivery model is described. This focuses on enabling residents to enjoy the next step of their life's journey in a caring homelike environment whilst offering encouragement and support in the pursuance of individual interests and activities. We recognise the importance of family friends and even pets and warmly welcome them into our community. We offer 24 hour nursing care and employ Registered Nurses Enrolled Nurses and Personal Care Workers all who have completed extensive training in their chosen field. Ongoing education and training is continually offered to ensure that our staff stay abreast of all new technologies and better practice outcomes for residents. In addition to the first class care supplied we pride ourselves in providing care in a homelike environment that promotes engagement and companionship. Our staff aim to build relationships with and between our residents through a range of social programs designed to encourage participation and engagement. However simple day-to-day activities and access to our range of on-site services including hairdressing podiatry and physiotherapy also contribute to the feeling of being part of a community. Individually residents are encouraged to continue with their hobbies leisure interests and exercise programs. Group activities are also offered and anyone is welcome to attend. Examples include Laughter Yoga card games bingo AFL football tipping exercise and pet therapy. External outings are also organised regularly and include sightseeing excursions shopping and to promote community links with local schools. We offer a wide range of services and facilities and strive to continuously improve these for our residents.
